Golfs courses in Marrakesh
There are three eighteen-hole golf courses in Marrakesh: The Amelkis Golf, located on the Route de Ouarzazate (km 12) The Royal Golf Club, about 10km away from town on the old Ouarzazate road. It has already been played on once by Churchill and Eisenhower. The Palmeraie Golf Club, built, as the name suggests, in Youssef Ben Tachfine’s palmery, off the Route de Casablanca, northeast of town. ALL COURSES ARE OPEN TO NONMEMBERS, WITH GREEN FEES BETWEEN 400 and 600 DH PER DAY
Moroccan courses are renowned for their visual appeal but Amelkis may be the most eye-catching of all and perhaps the most exciting to play on. It is a big site with big targets, seductively mounded, heavily bunkered and with large greens and expansive, undulating fairways; no to mention the lakes, fountains and the unique waste bunkers. These waste bunkers were created from crushed rock which colour complements the land scape. The greens are also large. They may be relatively easy to find, but unless you can arrow a long iron shot well, four putts will not be unusual. Be too far adrift and you will need divine guidance with the putter!
Green fees: Golf course 18 holes: starting at 470 Dhs

Built in the 20’s by the pasha of Marrakesh, the Royal Golf Club is one of the longest-established in Morocco. Constantly renovated and improved, it is also one of His Majesty King Hassan ll’s favourite courses.
With good reason. How magical for a golfer to play on this par 72 course at the feet of the snow-covered Atlas mountains! And what a delight to stride the length of its 6,777 yards where grows a colourful flora – cypress, eucalyptus, palm, olive, orange and apricot trees! But try not to be disturbed by the wonderful landscape. Be twice as vigilant at hole number 15. The green is hidden behind two grassy mounds separated by a bunker. Plus some additional hazard – angles are blocked by high palm trees.
Once the game is over, seasoned players often remember some of the eminent men who have played on this world-famous course; men like Winston Churchill, David Lloyd George and Ike Eisenhower…

When international master Robert Trent Jones was presented with a perpetually limpid sky, the celebrated Palmeraie (Palm Grove) in Marrakesh, the majestic Atlas mountains and a horizon dotted with white medinas, he created an 18-hole masterpiece: the Palmeraie Golf Club. He designed a spacious valley, its broad form softened by thousands of palm trees and embellished with seven lakes. Numerous sand hazards add the pearly whiteness of the Atlantic beaches to this lush scene, with ochre walls and green tiles of the magnificent Moorish styled club house forming a striking centre piece to the whole design.
